We have had our historic first goalscorer at the New Spurs Stadium and the answer to future pub quiz questions iis… J’Neil Bennett.
The 17-year-old has the honour of being the first every goalscorer at Spurs’ new S62,062 seater stadium as the U18s took on Southampton on Sunday afternoon in front of 30,000 watching spectators.
The game is the first of two test events which will help the stadium gain the relevant safety certificates in order for it to open officially for the April 3 Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
It only took 11 minutes for the first goal to be scored at the stadium and it was a peach as well as teenager Bennett picked up the ball on the left hand side, cut infield and curled a fine effort into the far bottom corner past a despairing Jack Bycroft. to give the home side a well-deserved lead.
But what do we know about the youngster who has managed to write himself into the history books in north London?
Bennett is a right-footed winger who made 11 appearances for Spurs U18s 2017/18, scoring two goals and starting all three of FA Youth Cup games.
This season, Bennett made his first U21s appearance for Spurs as well as he turned out in the Checkatrade Trophy 1-1 draw against Crawley Town as he came off the bench for an eight-minute cameo against the League Two side.
Bennett grew up in Camden, attending Haverstock School and has previously played for Queens Park Rangers for making the move across town to Spurs.
