WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned on Tuesday that his former lawyer Michael Cohen was mendacity when he testified Trump had directed him to damage the legislation, the Associated Press reported.
Cohen testified in August that Trump had directed him to devote a criminal offense via arranging bills to silence 2 girls who alleged they’d affairs with Trump before the 2016 presidential election.
Cohen, who had in the past boasted he was the president’s “fixer,” pleaded responsible in August to 8 felony fees including tax evasion, financial institution fraud and campaign finance violations.
Trump mentioned within the AP interview that Cohen’s testimony was “totally false.” He additionally minimized Cohen’s function operating for him, describing him as “a PR person who did small legal work.”
Trump known as it “very sad” that Cohen had struck a deal to “achieve a lighter sentence,” in line with the AP.
Lanny Davis, 1 of Cohen’s legal professionals, referred to his tweets when requested via Reuters for remark.
“Under oath (Michael Cohen) acknowledged and took responsibility for (Trump’s) bad behaviour,” Davis wrote, including Cohen “doesn’t fear the #truth.”
