Manchester City will successfully defend their Premier League title this season, according to Star Spreads’ latest Premier League Supercomputer.
Boffins from the spread betting firm have predicted the final points tally in the Premier League based on a unique statistical model. Their series of complex calculations and variables include expected goals, form, head to head records, team news and injury concerns.
Despite currently sitting second, two points behind Liverpool but with a game in hand, the Supercomputer predicts City will win their fourth title in eight years – beating Jurgen Klopp’s side by two points and finish this year’s trophy-laden campaign on 94 points.
For Liverpool, it will be no consolation but their second place finish on 92 points is the highest ever for any Premier League team – beating Manchester United’s total of 89 when coming second only on goal difference to Manchester City in 2012.
Behind those two is where it gets interesting for our clubs and the battle for the top four.
The super computer has predicted that just four points will separate third from sixth, with north London rivals Spurs and Arsenal taking the final two Champions League spots in third and fourth respectively, meaning Manchester United and Chelsea will miss out.
Arsenal and Leicester City are the main beneficiaries from the last time the Supercomputer was in action a fortnight ago. Arsenal (75) cement their place in the Champions League spot ahead of Manchester United (73) and struggling Chelsea (72) who were originally tipped for fourth – while the Foxes’ (50) recent resurgence under Brendan Rodgers will see them leapfrog West Ham (49) and Everton (48) for a 9th place finish.
Wolves will end a fantastic return to the top flight as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men finish in seventh place on 56 points – the highest point tally for a promoted since Nottingham Forest in 1995 who finished 3rd with 77 points.
In the relegation fight, Cardiff are forecasted to join the already-doomed Huddersfield and Fulham in the Championship next season, the football wizards predict Neil Warnock’s side to go down on 33 points – five points behind the disappointing Burnley.
A Star Spreads spokesman said: “With the international break ahead of us, the Supercomputer has been in Premier League overdrive. It keeps faith in Manchester City to topple Liverpool – while the biggest climbers are Leicester and Arsenal who will come back after the break raring to go.”
