The international break is well underway, with several Arsenal players currently away with their national teams for the final time this season.
And those who haven’t travelled for international duty are in Dubai, with Unai Emery having taken a 23-man squad away for some warm weather training in the United Arab Emirates.
Arsenal will play Al Nasr Club to mark the official opening of their new Al Maktoum Stadium on Tuesday before returning to the UK, where they will be joined at London Colney by their teammates who have been away with their national teams.
The Premier League run-in then gets underway at the weekend, with Emery’s side having to wait until Monday night to take on Newcastle United at the Emirates.
With the battle for the top four so tight, every game is vital now for Arsenal – and Emery will be hoping all of his players currently away on international duty return home fit to feature against Rafa Benitez’s side.
That is after Aaron Ramsey was forced to leave the Wales camp with a thigh injury which saw him miss the games against Trinidad and Tobago and Slovakia.
The injury is not believed to be too serious, however, and Arsenal are hopeful the midfielder will be available to face Newcastle.
Meanwhile Sokratis and Sead Kolasinac are also nursing injuries, with the Greek centre-back missing his nation’s game with Liechtenstein and the left-back sitting out Bonsia’s 2-1 win against Armenia.
Both have remained with their national teams, however, and are expected to feature when their two nations meet on Tuesday night before they return to London.
Bosnia coach Robert Prosinecki said: “Sead came in with a bit of a shoulder injury so I decided to rest him. We wanted to save him for the Greece match.”
Elsewhere, Nacho Monreal is struggling with a calf problem that saw him miss the training camp in Dubai.
Arsenal released a statement on Friday revealing that the experienced left-back had remained in England for treatment, but that it was only a precautionary measure.
Other that, however, Emery’s squad is in good shape. Danny Welbeck is out in Dubai doing some light training with his teammates, but is not close to a return from the broken ankle he suffered last year.
Expected XI vs Newcastle: Leno, Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal, Maitland-Niles, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Ramsey, Ozil, Lacazette, Aubameyang.
