The Impartial Nationwide Elector Fee (INEC) has stated it should lengthen voting time by the hours misplaced.
The nationwide Commissioner of the fee, Festus Okoye, made this identified whereas briefing journalist on the Worldwide Convention Heart in Abuja.
“What the fee has determined is that in any of the States the place polls opened at 9’o clock, there shall be an extension of 1 hour and it progresses that means,” he stated.
Polls have been alleged to open at 8a.m. and shut by 2pm.
“In relation to the opening of polls in among the states of the federation, as at 12midday, we recorded 100% opening of polls, a few of them we recorded over 90% opening of ballot,” he stated.
“In Anambra as at 12 midday 90% of all of the polling models had opened; in Edo state, 97%; in Ekiti, 100%; within the FCT we recorded 73%; in Katsina, 100%, in Kebbi, 100%, in Kogi, 91%, in Kwara, 96%, in Niger 99.35%, in Ogun, 74%, in Ondo, 100%, in Osun state, 100%, in Taraba, 69%, in Yobe, 69%.
“In a spot like Adamawa State, we recorded, 34% opening of polls, in Akwa Ibom, 64%, Bauchi, 49%, in Bayelsa, 29%, in borno, 35%, in Delta 32%, in Ebonyi, 35%, in Gombe, 62% and so forth and so forth.
Mr Okoye assured the fee is in contact with all of the resident electoral commissioners and electoral officers in nearly all of the native governments in relation to some the challenges they’ve that made polls to not open on time.
He stated a few of these challenges are security-related whereas some relate to the difficulty of late arrival of the members of the nationwide Union of street transport employees.
“However in all these states the challenges are being addressed presently” he stated.
