After two windows without spending any money Spurs should be ideally placed to bolster their squad for the first season at the new stadium this summer and as such are being linked with a variety of players in different positions.
Unfortunately, Spurs are also being linked with losing players to some of the giants of European football but perhaps there’s some good news on that front.
Elsewhere it seems the Lilywhites are still in the hunt for a high profile player while the club perhaps has improved chance at signing another youngster that Pochettino could develop to the next level.
Here are the biggest of today’s rumours.
The Belgian’s future at Spurs is still very much uncertain but he may have dropped a hint that he hopes to continue his career in north London.
Alderweireld was set to be out of contract at the end of the season but the club took up an option in the player’s deal to extend it by a further 12 months.
However, that option now means he can leave for £25million in the summer providing a club matches the figure before the final two weeks of the transfer window. That has left Manchester United with the opportunity to land the defender they have been closely linked to over the past year at a bargain price.
The 30-year-old did comment on his future on Tuesday.
He told Sky Sports : “There’s a lot to play for this season and at the end I have a year contract left at Spurs and I don’t look further than this season. I’m very happy at Spurs and we’ll see what the future brings.
“I still feel very fit, I’ve played a lot of minutes this season, I’ve shown I’m fit, I don’t feel 30, I feel younger, I’m very happy, I try to watch game by game and there’s a lot to play for this season so I’ll give my best for that.”
That said the centre-back has given Spurs fans some hope. Posting two images of himself on international duty to Instagram on Tuesday evening, the player was asked by user __nwr if he would be able to stay with Spurs a little longer.
Adrien Rabiot’s future has been uncertain for near enough 12 months now. The PSG midfielder becomes a free agent summer and has been banned from the Parisian side’s training centre.
He now trains alone but despite his supposed transgressions the 23-year-old is allegedly asking for a salary of around €10m-per-year, plus a signing-on fee of between €10-15m, as he sits in a position of power given his contract situation in France.
Talks have been reported to be ongoing between Rabiot’s entourage and the three Premier League sides in Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool. That now doesn’t appear the case but Spurs remain firmly in the race.
According to the player’s mother and agent Veronique Rabiot, the Frenchman still does not have a club for next season and there have been no negotiations with anyone of late.
The midfielder has also been linked to the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona but personal circumstances have delayed the negotiating process.
Veronique told L’Equipe – via Sport Witness – : “Everyone says that we have already signed with a club. But we did not sign anywhere!
“We really did not have the opportunity to worry about it. At the end of last year, I said that I would not speak with any club before January 1st. I have been out of this world for over two months, with all our misfortunes. There are priorities in life. They were elsewhere for us.”
Rabiot’s mother further noted that there had been little contact from other agents about her son’s future.
“Not that much. Some have realised that our personal situation is difficult. I dare to believe that there are still some elegant people in this environment. I may have the weakness to believe it,” she said.
Teamtalk report that Hartlepool have parted ways with 17-year-old Luca Murphy by mutual consent.
The youngster is believed to be on the radar of Spurs, Manchester United, Newcastle and Leeds, while there was talk of a move to Fulham in January.
The monkey hangers failed to come to terms with the defender for a professional contract and their non-league status prevents them from receiving compensation and as such, they have allowed the youngster to leave before the end of the season.
Murphy spent eight years on the books at Hartlepool and is capable with either foot, while being described as confident and composed. He made it to the North East side’s first team in November 2018
