The transfer window may have been closed for almost four weeks now, but despite that Arsenal remain linked with summer moves for a number of different players.
Denis Suarez appears a signing that the Gunners are less and less likely to make and among the other names repeatedly being linked with a move to the red side of North London, there seems to be an update on Nicolas Pepe every day.
However, the most key position that Arsenal still need filling is that of their technical director, former player Marc Overmars and Roma’s sporting director Monchi were the most prominent names in the frame until the former signed a new deal and the latter joined Sevilla.
Nevertheless, Arsenal are said to be advance in their transfer plans and these are today’s latest updates on those stories and the newest transfer rumours involving Arsenal.
Bayern Munich have long been the favourites to sign Pepe from Lille and in recent days there has been the suggestion the Bundesliga side were making their final efforts to sign the winger before his value could rice any higher.
The German side are reportedly wary of Champions League qualification impacting any potential fee and hope to have the arrangements made before the end of the season.
However, Sky Sports in Germany believe that Bayern Munich have not made the mammoth bid for Pepe that was reported but that negotiations do appear to be underway between the Bavarian side and Lille.
It seems the Gunners could struggle to compete financially for the Ivory Coast international, their recent form has certainly helped with one criteria.
Earlier this year Lille boss Christophe Galtier noted Pepe must go to a club in Europe’s premier competition.
“He has to go to a Champions League club,” said the 52-year-old, in comments reported by Metro . “In my opinion, he does not need an intermediate step to go as high as possible.”
Arsenal are already focused on qualifying for the Champions League having missed out on the top four in their final two seasons under Arsene Wenger. They lie in fourth position at the moment two points clear of Manchester United.
Reports from Leicester suggest their left back Ben Chilwell is set to depart this summer – that could be bad news for Arsenal.
Tottenham and Manchester City have been linked to the young international but the latter are thought to be primed to win the race despite a £75 million valuation that was suggested earlier this season.
The Premier League Champions might not have to stump up that much however, after the report noted that something behind the scenes had prompted Leicester’s stance.
The Foxes are expected to turn to Kieran Tierney as a replacement which would see a reunion with Brendan Rodgers, and add some competition to Arsenal’s chances of signing the highly rated full-back.
Following Rodgers appointment in the east Midlands, a number of rumours emerged concerning his former charge but Chilwell departs it makes the possibility more real. Tierney is just 18 months into a six-year-deal and it is expected around £30 million would be required for a successful bid.
Celtic’s left back played played it cool when asked about the rumours. He said: “There are going to be rumours like that. I’ve seen and heard them as well.
“I’ve been on the end of speculation for a few transfer windows so it’s nothing different for me. It doesn’t take my mind off Celtic.
“My pals ask me too and there will be links with a lot of Celtic players. It’s natural because it’s his old club but it’s nothing I know of.
“We thank him for all he has done as he has helped me become a much better player and professional.
“The standards he set changed football up here. What we achieved over the time he was here was crazy but there is no point in dwelling on the past. We need to look forward.”
Reports from AS suggested earlier this season that Arsenal are in the hunt for the signature of Hungarian wonderkid Dominik Szoboszlai this summer and now the youngster has had his say on a potential move.
The 18-year-old currently plies his trade with RB Salzburg in the Bundesliga and is reported to cost around €10 million
Reported by Teamtalk he said: A lot of people say that my style of play is close to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic [of Lazio] and Toni Kroos [of Real Madrid]. It is a great thing to hear that.
“There has been a lot of speculation recently [about my future]. Of course, it is a huge honour to be linked with giant clubs like Juventus, Bayern or Arsenal, but at this stage of my career, I only focus on my current duties and my development at Salzburg.
“I am part of a great club and a very successful team. My goal is to earn a regular spot in the midfield. Everything else can only come after that. Every player wants to play in one of the top leagues and the Champions League one day.
“I am not an exception, but there is a lot of work ahead of me to achieve that. I am in a good way, but the journey has only just begun.”
