The lecturers say they’re going on strike again to inform Ogun State government to repair the deplorable state of the varsity.
Academic actions will quickly be disrupted once again at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Ojere, Abeokuta, as the varsity lecturers mentioned they’re resuming the strike they suspended in 2017.
Following an emergency assembly of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, the workers of the polytechnic in accordance with New Telegraph mentioned they will resume the suspended industrial action.
While addressing a press convention in Abeokuta, the Coordinator of ASUP Zone C mentioned the choice to go on strike by the Polytechnic lecturers was to press home the union’s calls for for the state government to repair deplorable state of the establishment, New Telegraph reviews.
He added that the 38-year-old establishment established and owned by Ogun State government was on the snapping point as a result of a collection of challenges going through it.
According to him, MAPOLY is grappling with multiple points a few of that are non-payment of accrued allowances, seizure of union and cooperative deduction, infractions within the appointment of Rector and politicization of the polytechnic subsector.
He mentioned, “At this level, our union is due to this fact constrained to lament again that our subsector in Ogun State is on the snapping point and desires all of the emergency consideration it urgently deserves. Until now, it must be famous that the problems being raised have been rolling since mid-2017.
“It is against this background that we want to remind government in any respect ranges in addition to Nigerians that we can not proceed to be enslaved and tortured by the state government who’s saddled with the accountability to reinforce our welfare, within the face of imminent and seemingly terrific annihilation of a subsector that feeds and caters for tens of millions of Nigerian youths and households.”
MAPOLY will stop to exist in 2021
Meanwhile, the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has introduced that the state polytechnic will stop to exist in 2021.
Amosun made the announcement in October 2017 whereas addressing college students who stormed his workplace at Oke Mosan to complain in regards to the state of schooling within the state.
Moshood Abiola Polytechnics was established in 1980 and was previously generally known as Ogun state Polytechnic.
