Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is departing for Juventus on a free transfer this summer and it seems the Gunners are searching in Serie A for his replacement.
Nicolo Barella is reported to be on the Gunners’ shortlist and scouts are believed to have been sent to watch the Italian on multiple occasions this season.
The 22-year-old, who was linked with a £45m move to Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the year as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas , has made impact for Cagliari this season making 26 appearances in Serie A, while winning for Italy caps since making his debut in October.
Cagliari owner Tommaso Giulini seems to retain hope of keeping hold of his charge despite suggestions the midfielder could be available for €50million.
He said : “I don’t know [what will happen].
“But I think he is a player who can develop a lot more. We hope that he will continue in our shirt.”
Giulini also admitted that both Napoli and Chelsea have already expressed an interest in the star.
He said: “I can’t deny this. Napoli’s interest was concrete in January. Yes [Sarri wanted him too].”
It doesn’t seem like any kind of transfer has come close to fruition yet however judging my remarks for Barella himself.
The former Como loanee commented on why a transfer did not happen and what the future holds for him amid talk that Inter Milan are also interested in signing him this summer.
“I’ve never spoken about transfers with other clubs,” he said. “I said I wanted to stay at Cagliari until the end of the season and I’ve spoken with nobody so far.
“There are some transfer rumours, it means that I am doing well.”
