Army Lifts Suspension Of UNICEF’s Activities In North East • Channels Television


 

The Nigerian Army has lifted its suspension of the operations of within the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) within the North East.

The determination adopted an emergency assembly between the Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole and representatives of UNICEF on Friday.

Deputy Director of Public Relations of the theatre command, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a observation.

He defined that the Army rescinded its determination following the intervention of well-meaning and anxious Nigerians within the topic.

Colonel Nwachukwu published that throughout the assembly, the Theatre Command admonished the representatives of the organisation to desist from actions inimical to nationwide security and in a position to undermining the continuing fight against terrorism and insurgency.

The command he stated steered the UNICEF representatives to make sure they proportion data with related government each time induction or coaching of latest workforce used to be being performed within the theatre.

Earlier, global human rights organisation, Amnesty International condemned the verdict of the Army to droop UNICEF operations within the area.

The Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, Osai Ojigho, had described the action of the Army as an act of intimidation.

Ojigho stated the suspension of UNICEF would deprive the ones whose lives had been devastated through the Boko Haram war within the area from receiving much-needed humanitarian help.

“We see the suspension of UNICEF as part of a wider drive to intimidate international humanitarian and human rights organisations who are working to save lives in this devastating conflict,” she alleged.
